An Alphabet of Shapes is a modular visual language of over 100 different shapes, all derived from a single motif in a traditional Indian block print design.
Echoing the structure of a jaali– a perforated stone or latticed screen commonly found in Indian architecture - this element evolved into a visual system that is part script, part architectural ornament, part creature.
At once readable and abstract, An Alphabet of Shapes connects visual form and tradition, inviting a new way of seeing.

An Alphabet of Shapes forms the foundation of Other Characters, a series of block-printed textiles for interior spaces. Each shape in the alphabet is numbered and digitised. The textiles are directly linked to this system, carrying the number of its corresponding shape within the alphabet.
